The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa, and the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in Taiwan organized this exhibition as a means of fostering a “meeting of perspectives” among artists from cultures as diverse as their own.
The accompanying texts emphasize how, in a globalized world, the exhibition reveals shared ground, common registers and similar creative solutions, which nevertheless do not mask the differences that arise from cultures as distinct and geographically distant as these. As noted by Juan B. Peiró and Rafael Gil in their essay Universos cruzados [Intersecting Universes], and by curators Lola Pascual and Chi-chang Hsieh in Cruce de miradas [Meeting of Gazes], the encounter suggests that there is, indeed, a space where perspectives intersect.
Enric Alfons participated in the exhibition with his graphite and charcoal drawing Retorno a Ruzafa, centred on a recurring theme in his work: the figure of the flautist, this time accompanied by his dog and set in Ruzafa, one of the neighbourhoods in Valencia with the highest number of Maghrebi immigrant population. In many of his later introspective series, this evocative character appears again—often with a pet goat.
