Catalogue for the exhibition and seminar held between April and June 2000, organized by the Diputació de València and the Centre Valencià de Cultura Mediterrània.
In his essay Encrucijadas del viaje y del errar [Crossroads of Travel and Wandering], Fernando Golvano calls for the Mediterranean Sea to reclaim its role as a “mediating sea”, fostering the convergence of cultures and communities. He reflects on how, throughout history, travel has shaped diverse perspectives on otherness, the unknown, the distant and the different, and how this opens the way for a transcultural analysis of the travel experience.
Enric Alfons took part in the exhibition with works in various formats, including a significant number of his small wood panels and sketchbooks from his travels, drawn from his series Espills d’un jardí, Dormir al ras and Albaneses.
Several essays accompany the catalogue, discussing the participating artists and their works. In the case of Enric Alfons, the subsection Encrucijada I: errabundeos críticos in Fernando Golvano’s essay, and the artist’s own text, Vagabundo a tiempo parcial.
